Brandy’s Lap Band Success Story
Brandy’s starting weight was 320 lbs. Current weight is 165 lbs.
That’s a total weight loss of 155 lbs! Congratulations, Brandy!

How did you come to the conclusion that the lap band was right for you?
Brandy: I decided that I had to do something and researched the R En Y. I decided it was not right for me, well because I just don’t like commitments. I was concerned what if the Dr. made the pouch too big or too small? I choose the band because I felt I had the most control.
What kind of insurance did you have or were you a self-pay patient?
Brandy: I am the wife of a Disabled Veteran and have ChampVA insurance.
What kind of band do you have? How many cc did it take to hit your “sweet spot”?
Brandy: I have the 4cc Inamed band. I hit my sweet spot at 3.00 cc’s, which took about 9 fills to get. I could only tolerate very small adjustments.
When and where did you have your surgery? Would you recommend that Dr or hospital to others?
Brandy: I had my surgery at Hurley Bariatric in Flint, Mi. I would highly recommend them.
Are you happy with your results from the lap band?
Brandy: Beyond happy, happiness has hit a whole new level!
Do you tell people that you have the band?
Brandy: Yes!
What kinds of foods do you eat?
Brandy: I eat pretty much whatever I want, with the understanding to myself that every calorie is counted. I use www.myparamidtracker.com to track all of my calorie intake. The key for me is never cutting out foods. If I really want something I have it, in small portions with the understanding that I will work it off later!
What kind of exercise do you do? How did you start?
Brandy: I exercise about 1.5 hours a day. I do 1 hour of cardio on a bike or treadmill for the most part. I then do .5 hour of weights alternating legs and arms each day. I do this at 4 am, 5 days a week. I started very slowly and only did about 15 minutes my first time. I have to still push myself to go sometimes, but I am always happy once I get there.
Any advice for people looking into getting the lap band?
Brandy: Make sure you a ready for the commitment. This isn’t a quick fix and it doesn’t do the work for you! You have to work it!
Any advice for people starting out with the band?
Brandy: Follow the bandster rules, workout and make good food choices. The band will not work unless you do! Picture your new life once you hit goal and think about it EVERYDAY. Motivate yourself by new clothes, shoes and purses not food! Remember food is now to be able to live life, not to live to eat!

After I was not approved for the sleeve, I decided to go with the lap band. Actually, before I even started all the legwork, I had decided on the lap band. I have had many surgeries and I only have 1 kidney and I don’t want to have surgery that could potentially have a lot of complications so I think it’s a godsend and I am having it done sometime in May 2010.

I am thinking about getting the lap band. I need to lose about 130 pds and I just dont seem to be able to do on my own. I have a friend that recently got it and she is losing slowly, which is good.
Is there anything you would share as far as the dos and donts before and after the surgery?
